I was walking through the men’s dayroom and looked out through the window at the patioI was walking through the men’s dayroom and looked out through the window at the patio. That’s where the men can go to get some fresh air, and we have exercise equipment for them to use. There was one weight bench that looked ragged, and I like for things to look nice. I guess I must have muttered to myself out loud about how bad it looked, because I heard a voice say, “I’ll fix it for you Mr. Dave.” “OK, thanks, Charles,” I replied and promptly forgot about it. Then, a few days later, Charles stopped by my office to tell me he had found some foam and just needed a piece of vinyl to cover the bench, and I arranged to get it for him. A few days after that, Charles came to get me. The result was amazing. He had borrowed a sewing machine from his sister, and had done a professional job – including a decorative trim around the edge. I would have just wrapped some material around it and tucked in the edges, but this was something really special! Charles and I were both beaming with pride. I began to think about the talents God gives us. Something special for every one of us. And, often, you can’t tell by just looking at a person. The Macon Rescue Mission does a good job of finding something to do for everyone who lives here. We help each person to understand and appreciate the value of work. And each individual brings to us something unique. What a wonderful opportunity it is to discover it together. Thanks for supporting us. Dave Wallace |
