“Thank you so much. I just didn’t know what we were going to do.”

“Thank you so much. I just didn’t know what we were going to do.”

I’ve heard that so many times during my two years at the Macon Rescue Mission, and I heard it again today, as I delivered a box of food to a woman and her daughter.

We are well known for our residential programs – helping homeless men, and women and children who are victims of domestic violence. But not as many people know about some of the other things that we do. One of them is delivering boxes of food – mostly to elderly and handicapped people – who have run out.

They are many in our community who run out of food at the end of the month – there just isn’t quite enough money. Many more have an unexpected bill – like a doctor visit or a broken down vehicle – that cuts into their food budget. So we help by making boxes of food that will get them by.

Sometimes people don’t have a stove or a refrigerator, so the food has to be the kind that can be prepared without cooking and non-perishable. Our kitchen staff customizes the box depending on the needs of the family.

I mention this today because our pantry is almost bare. Can you help? On your next trip to the grocery store, can you pick up a few extra items? Canned goods, tuna, peanut butter and jelly are always needed. Or maybe your Sunday School class or service club needs a project. If so, consider a food drive.

Thanks again for your support and your prayers.
